My Wednesday word for this week is ‘bungalow’. If you’re an Aussie like me, you’re probably more used to saying ‘bungah’ than the full word.
‘Bungalow’ came into English from both Hindi and Urdu. The word banglā means ‘Bengal-type house’ or just ‘from Bengal’ in both languages. It moved over to English around 1670. The English word now means a ‘low, one story cottage’.
